Step-2 Tap on Profile: You know the drill. From the profile icon at the top left corner, you can access the app settings. So, click on that tiny profile icon of yours.

Step-3 Go to Settings: Here, you can manage your profile as well as its settings. From stopping LinkedIn from sending emails to managing chat settings. So, go to the settings option.

Step-4 Tap on Communications: Chatting is about how other members and users of LinkedIn can communicate with you. I am sure you don't want anyone completely unknown to bombard you with messages. So, go to the communications option from here.

Step-5 Tap on Messages: On scrolling down, you see a category of 'Who can reach you.' The third option under that is of messages. Now you know where to click to go to the last step.

Step-6 Read and Turn Off Necessary Ones: To clarify, here, it is very important for you to read options and then keep them off or on. Do not blindly turn them all off, okay.

  • There are mainly four on/off buttons here each leading to a different kind of message setting to be on or off.
  • The first one is about message requests. When your 2nd or 3rd connection, that is the people you are not connected with directly but your direct connections are. So, when they send you a message, it will be visible as a message request. You can allow them or not allow them.
  • It is advisable to keep this on only so that anyone and everyone cannot creep into your messages. You can decide whether to permit them or not.
  • The second is of allowing others to send you InMail. You can turn this off. This is a feature where any premium user or your connections can send you InMail. But turning it off is good.
  • Open Profile messages which is the third option and it is usually off. This is a feature for premium users. They can see the complete profiles of others, can see who viewed their profile and can message anyone. When you keep this off, even they cannot message you.
  • The last category is of receiving sponsored messages. These are native ads that are a part of varied marketing or promotional campaigns.
  • You can turn it off if you want to. However, whenever the message is sponsored, the title of 'sponsored' is there beside it so you can identify it.

Thus, it completely depends on who you are allowing to chat and message with you. To clarify, the people you have already connected with can message you directly on LinkedIn. If you do not want them in your inbox anymore, either disconnect with them or block them, simple.
