How to Set up an Instagram Creator Account

Set Up an Instagram Creator Account in 7 Steps

Step-1 Open Instagram App: On your mobile device, look for the Instagram application and open it. If you have already created an account, log in to it. If not, you can sign up and create a new Instagram account.

Step-2 Go to Profile Icon: When you log in to Instagram, you see your feed where you can see posts and stories that others share.

  • To set up an Instagram creator account, you need to go to the profile icon at the far right corner at the bottom of the screen.
  • It will either show your profile picture in a miniature form or a person's icon as shown in the photo below.
  • Click on that to go further.

Step-3 Click on Edit Profile: After going to your profile, you need to tap on the edit profile option. That will take you ahead to profile changes and settings.

Step-4 Switch to Professional Account: To clarify,  you cannot set up an Instagram creator account if you are using a personal account or a private account.

  • You need to change your account to a professional one.
  • For that, click on the option of 'switch to professional account', which is in blue font.

Step-5 Click on Continue: By choosing to switch to a professional account, Instagram asks you whether you are sure and you want to continue.

  • It shows you four different messages one by one.
  • Firstly, it informs that you will get professional tools, then it says to learn about your followers, reach more people, and get new contact options.
  • You need to click on continue each time until this informational screen goes away and a list of categories appears in front of you.

Step-6 Select the Category: So, now you are ready to choose the category of the creator. From the list of categories that Instagram provides, choose the one that resonates with you.

  • Think well in choosing the category as your Instagram activity will roam around that specialization.
  • Don't worry, you will find your category easily as there are many to choose from.
  • You can select an artist, blogger, clothing brand, writer, gamer, photographer, or simply a digital creator if you are confused.
  • Once you select it, you can go further.

Step-7 Set Up Instagram Creator Account: Now, to show your category along with your bio, you need to activate an option of 'Display on Profile' that is visible at the top of the screen itself.

  • If it is grey, it means it is not active and if it is blue, it means it is active.
  • Activate it to show the label of the creator category on your profile.
  • Click on the blue tick mark at the top of the screen. Choose creator when Instagram asks whether you are a business or creator.
  • Thus, your creator account is set up.

Finally, you did it. You set up Instagram creator account in just 7 steps. One thing to remember is that your category defines your type and form of content. You cannot choose a musician/band and then post dance videos. The category defines your main focus area of content creation. You can change this category anytime so do not worry. Just begin your Instagram journey and find friends on Instagram.
